Healthy Homes Assessment

At Inform Building Inspections, we provide comprehensive Healthy Homes Assessments throughout Taranaki, giving landlords and property managers a clear understanding of whether their property meets the required standards and what improvements, if any, are needed.

What Is a Healthy Homes Assessment?

If you own a rental property, it's your responsibility to ensure it complies with the New Zealand Healthy Homes Standards. These standards are designed to create warmer, drier and healthier homes for tenants while helping landlords protect the long-term value of their investment. Full details on the requirements for landlords can be found on the Tenancy Services website - www.tenancy.govt.nz/healthy-homes/

Heating

A qualifying fixed heating source must be installed in the main living area and be capable of heating the room to the required temperature.

Insulation

Ceiling and underfloor insulation must meet minimum requirements where reasonably practicable.

Ventilation

Rental properties must have opening windows in living spaces and extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms to help reduce moisture and improve indoor air quality.

Moisture Ingress & Drainage

Properties must have effective drainage systems, including gutters, downpipes and drains, along with ground moisture barriers where required for enclosed subfloors.

Draught Stopping

Landlords must ensure unreasonable gaps or holes that create noticeable draughts are sealed and that open fireplaces are blocked if they are no longer in use.

Detailed Compliance Reports

Following your inspection, you'll receive a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report outlining:

  • Your property's current compliance status

  • Areas that meet the Healthy Homes Standards

  • Items requiring attention

  • Practical recommendations for achieving compliance

  • Supporting photographs and inspection notes

Our reports provide landlords and property managers with clear documentation to help plan maintenance, organise repairs and demonstrate due diligence.
